This pill is expensive if you have no insurance.  A Loestrin 24 coupon does not exist per se but a reusable savings card is offered that is good for 1 year and brings the monthly Loestrin 24 monthly cost to under $24. You can call their 800 number (1-877-637-4624) for a Loestrin 24 Fe Patients Savings Card. You can also ask your doctor for a card, however they might not know anything about it.

A. These are the inactive pills that contain iron (Fe) to alleviate anemia problems commonly resulting from menstruation.

Q. When do you get your period with Loestrin 24 Fe?
A. On day 25 or day 26 i.e. the first or second day of the brown pills.

Q. How long does Loestrin 24 Fe take to work?
A. At least a week will offer some protection, while an entire month is required for its maximum potential.

Q. If I skip the brown pills in Loestrin 24 FE will I miss a period?
A. Only if you immediately start taking the next pack, otherwise you will get your period (probably lighter and shorter) on the 25th or 26th day.

Q. Does breakthrough bleeding (spotting) during the month mean Loestrin 24 Fe is not working?
A. Possibly. Since Loestrin 24 has one of the lowest doses of hormones, it’s not strong enough for everyone. Consider a stronger contraceptive if breakthrough bleeding occurs.

Keep in mind though, birth control pills in general can cause weight gain. People react differently to birth controls so if Loestrin 24 causes unacceptable weight gain, then  try switching to another birth control like Femcon or Yasmin.

Sometimes spotting can indicate a dosage level of hormones that is too low. If spotting doesn’t subside after 6 months consider a stronger birth control pill.

If you are one of the minority where Loestrin 24 actually causes or increases your acne breakouts , then consider a change to a different birth control pill.

Loestrin 24 acne is not a given and is much less likely than with Progestin only pills.

I’ve taken Yaz since November of 2007. I recently stopped taking it. With any contraceptive, you have good and bad.

When I first started taking Yaz, I began having really bad leg cramps. They would wake me up and I could not straighten my leg. I was hydrated and had enough potassium in my body so I know that these were not the reasons for the cramps.

I began having extreme migraine headaches. I had rarely ever had a headache before.

Mood swings and anger/rage issues were also some symptoms I suffered. I am usually a happy go lucky person, so crying and being sad for no reason, being angry for no reason ( sometimes screaming and yelling and wanting to cause harm to people). This is what really scared me and I didn’t understand what was going on.

Finally after almost five months of migraine headaches, missing way too much work, and feeling unstable, I went to the doctor. They informed me that 1 out of 15 women react normally with Yaz and that for the other 14 these symptoms occur. They concluded that it was a hormonal imbalance.

As far as loestrin 24 FE, I have heard good things about it, but as with any contraceptive, there are chances for side effects.

After researching the side effects, I found that an increase in breast size was common. Something of which I also experienced.

Yaz did curb my period, but the cramps were still as severe as they had been before I took them.

It is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy…which has remained true for me.

It caused very painful acne the first three months but cleared it up in the fourth month.

If you’re that one in 15 that it works for, then great. But I’d research any oral contraceptive before I actually decided to take it from now on.

Speak with your gynecologist and ask questions. Ask what side effects are commonly known for that pill.

Everyone is different. This was just my experience taking it.
